The Future is Distributed, Small to Medium Scale Solutions: Building a Local Resource Cycle System
Our goal is to empower local communities with the ability to manage and create resources
Instead of relying on imported fuel and simply consuming energy and raw material, harnessing local organic resources – especially those that are considered “waste” and subject to disposal and related fees – communities can continue to create resource and establish a self-contained bioeconomy. Breaking free of the linear or recycling economy by linking energy, agriculture, and forestry, local communities can be truly empowered while also offsetting costs and greenhouse gases. A system as such does not only rely on technical solutions and hardware, but a holistic system that links various social and economic activities over their traditional boundaries.
A New Possibility for Biomass Utilization
Grenol GmbH has produced the first commercial plant that harnesses the process of Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC), which converts a wet biomass mix into solid fuel and liquid fertilizer. As opposed to pyrolysis, the feedstock is broken down by hydrolysis into carbon and process water, which occurs at a low temperature of 230 degrees Celcius and 20-30 bar. With a compact design in which the base module is fitted into a 40-foot container, Grenol’s HTC solution can help communities rid of waste issues by changing it into an opportunity to create new resources.
Almost 100% of the carbon in the feedstock is separated and recovered – this means even methane fermentation sludge and sewerage sludge, manure, food waste, and all such material that were deemed worthless or required high disposal costs can have a second life as valuable, high calorie fuel that can be used in boilers or gasifiers and the process water used for hydroponics or vacuum distilled for liquid fertilizer production.
RenEnergy also provides a wide range of solutions for methane fermentation, gasification, and heat recovery. Find out more by contacting us or checking back for more information.
